Essence and Application A View From Chiron edition by Zane Stein Politics Social Sciences eBooks
The planetoid Chiron was discovered in 1977, and astrologers only recently started from scratch. The author early on devoted his attention to Chiron and should be commended for attempting empirical research, poring through known (i.e., mostly celebrity) horoscopes and soliciting comments from practicing astrologers. Nevertheless, there is a lot of speculation here, and one hopes that someone can do better and more meaningful syntheses of Chiron with other elements in the chart. For example, Stein gives the following divergent descriptions for Venus conjunct Chiron (an aspect in my own chart), separated and edited for brevity:[a] “It gives, potentially, a great deal of love which comes spontaneously forth from the native as a real healing influence, giving most to those most in need. Here there can be a danger in that many people with this aspect are vulnerable to being easily hurt—their love is given without strings or expectations, without any defenses at all. ....” [b] “Another expression ... is a life quest for what is real, valuable, truly worthwhile in life—a quest for true beauty and value. This can lead the person to disregard society's values, or to try to select what is worthwhile out of all the fake values around....” [c] “Another expression ... is a desire to understand what makes the real world tick—the laws governing material things. It is an excellent aspect for a scientist, for it seems that Venus is not passive when in this aspect—Chiron is trying to uncover as much about Venus as it can.” [pp. 106-107]
Frankly, I don't find that sort of delineation very useful, nor can I readily perceive any similarity among the many and varied celebrities he lists having this aspect. Perhaps a trait was manifested only in a public figure's private life, but who knows, and what can the reader learn from it? The book has value, but it could use more thinking and a fresh-from-scratch rewrite.

Essence and Application A View From Chiron edition by Zane Stein Politics Social Sciences eBooks Reviews
This much awaited republication of the classic text on Chiron by Zane Stein includes the material from the author's historic lecture to the Guild in 1979 as well as his pamphlet `Interpreting Chiron'. One of the great gifts which this world renowned astrologer and author offers us, is his vast research on the workings of Chiron in our daily lives. From his speedy production of an ephemeris upon the discovery of this celestial body in 1977, to the endless surveys on the impact of Chiron on birth charts by transit, progression and solar arc direction as well as natally, Zane built up an unprecedented body of knowledge. Generously sharing this with us throughout his book, Zane also continues to do so online through his facebook and webpages.
Divided into two parts, the first part of this book offers us an interpretation of Chiron by House, Aspect and Sign including a useful section on keywords and rulerships. Part two focuses on the Essence and Application including the Chiron Return, the issue of what healing means, and the application of Chiron in our life, as well as an ephemeris of Chiron at the back. However, describing the content in this brief summary does not do justice to the astrological, philosophical and spiritual depths the author takes us to in this incredibly comprehensive book. No stone is left unturned as we voyage through the authors rich Chironian offerings including the concept of time. The author describes `Chiros' as time outside the time of Saturn and Uranus ruling `the concept of NOW' and reminding us that we live in the present rather than getting caught up in the past or future. Deeply relevant to the current collective transformation we are undergoing, I leave you with a quote from this wonderful book `can the freeing of Prometheus by Chiron represent the releasing of humanity's true destiny, after we perceive the true reality via Chiron and thus perceive how we are all one?'
I highly recommend this deeply insightful book for all astrologers at any level of learning and experience as well as non-astrologers who are interested in self-development. This is a classic astrology book which reminds us of the wealth of information this celestial body can offer us particularly at this time of individual and collective transformation.
I expected tighter, deeper information. T'was good enough for beginners to wanting to know Chiron better. It misses the feminine touch. We all have to heal by letting in UNIVERSAL MOTHER and Chiron is about healing wounds. A nurturer type feminine Astrologer would have gone much deeper.
A great succinct summary of Chiron particuarlly in relation to its discovery and mythology, and a fascinating introduction to the 165 Degree aaspect.
Excellent study on Chiron, especially the aspects of natal Chiron. Found it incredibly accurate in delineating personality traits.
A must have if you are a student of astrology. Also ordered for an astrologer friend.
